About Webinar

Microsoft HoloLens has the capability to bring together the real and virtual worlds in a way that is not possible with any other device. It gives realtors, architects, civil engineers, educators, retailers and product designers the ability to visualize their ideas in a 3D format instead of on just paper or a computer screen.

At Softweb Solutions, we are working with professionals in the above mentioned industries on creating use cases, proof of concepts and applications for HoloLens for the last one year.

In this webinar, we will share our experiences, use cases and the demos that we have created. We will also share the best practices for HoloLens application development followed by a Q&A session.

Webinar agenda

  • Introduction to holographic computing – how it works
  • How HoloLens’ mixed reality capabilities can benefit enterprises
  • Use cases – real estate, construction, education, retail and product design
  • Hololens app demo
  • Q&A

Questions & Answers

The following are the answers to the questions that were asked during the live webinar.

Question 1: What protective eyewear standards does the HoloLens meet?

Answer 1: It has been tested and found to conform to the basic impact protection requirements of ANSI Z87.1, CSA Z94.3 and EN 166, the most common protective glass certification standards. This opens the door for more companies to use HoloLens in innovative ways and unlock new potential use cases.

Question 2: What caused the failure of Google Glass? Could HoloLens face similar hurdles?

Answer 2: HoloLens is different from Google Glass because HoloLens is more about solving problems, creating new products, and editing models in a 3D environment to better visualize the final product while Google Glass had features similar to a smartphone such as a camera, phone messaging alerts, and directions. Hence, I would say both devices are not comparable.

Question 3: How can I interact with holograms using MS Hololens?

Answer 3: The holograms you’ll see with Microsoft HoloLens can appear life-like, and can move, be shaped, and change according to how you interact with them or the physical environment in which they are visible.

Microsoft HoloLens understands your movements, gaze, and voice, enabling you to interact with the content and information naturally. You can use gestures to create, shape, and size holograms. The gaze feature can be used to navigate and explore while the voice feature can be used to communicate with your apps.

Question 4: Can 360 degree videos be shown in Hololens, in combination with virtual 3D objects?

Answer 4: Yes, a 360 degree video can be shown along with 3D objects in HoloLens.

Question 5: In which countries is HoloLens available? What languages does it support?

Answer 5: At this time, HoloLens is available in Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States. However, it is available in the English language only.

Question 5: Is there a special software required for architectural model development or is it built into the HoloLens?

Answer 5: Unity 3D and Visual Studio are required for development. Also, 3D modeling tools like 3D Max are required for modeling, texturing, animation etc.
